Slim Pickings

The WaldenBooks in my town has finally gone out of business. They have been talking about it for several years. I assumed they would wait until the old mall closed (it's nearly empty of retailers); but they packed it in a couple of weeks ago. That leaves Hastings as the big chain, and our great independent Montana Book Co.. There is also a specialty bookstore in the Montana Historical Society, and several nice used book stores that occasional have new titles. Gift shops, too. I'm wondering what impact this will have on the independent store, particularly. Maybe people will make more trips to the library.
