Pirating books

Here's a scary occurrence. On one of the forums I frequent, someone reported their discovery that a publisher they cancelled a contract with 20 years ago, went on and published the book and has been selling it ever since. She's never seen a cent of royalties. Yikes! Suggestions from others are to Google your name every 2 - 3 months, and check Amazon.com for your titles, to make sure the book hasn't been pirated.

I had noticed on a used book site, that one of my early, now out of print, titles was listed as "second printing", which I don't recall every happening. I think I will buy the copy to see if the listing was accurate, and if so, investigate. The company never notified me the book was out of print, I found out by accident; they also didn't allow me a chance to by warehouse copies or printer's plates--the usual procedure when a publisher is fazing out a title.
